About

Counselling

Central to my work is developing a strong therapeutic relationship, with a large body of research showing that this relationship is five times more important to positive outcomes than any therapeutic method. My strengths-based approach draws on a number of therapeutic orientations including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and Narrative and Solution Focused Therapies. I use Sand Tray and Play Therapy when working with younger children.

I have also undergone Trichotillomania training to help clients with body focused repetitive behaviours (BFRB’s). In addition to therapy I also offer cognitive and educational assessments for children, and adolescents.

Although my work with clients is  informed by theory (using evidence-based treatment), I regard my main role to be that of an informed listener and enlightened witness to client stories.
